Bladen County SchoolsThe Bladen County Board of Education will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education building located on US 701 South, Elizabethtown.

First on the agenda are Spotlights and Recognitions. They include the Battle of the Books Winners, Microsoft Certified Students, Teachers of the Year, Principal of the Year and the awarding of the Monthly Attendance Banner.

Under Information Items, the board will hear the April financial summary presented by Finance Director Sharon Penny; the CTE Spring Newsletter scheduled to be presented by CTE Director Willa Dean Williams; Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child scheduled to be presented by Lead School Nurse Willie Kay McDuffie; High School Scholarships scheduled to be presented by  Assistant Superintendent Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Tanya Head; NCVPS scheduled to be presented by Dr. Head and Rachel McBroom; and BCS in the News to be presented by Public Relations Director Valerie Newton.

Action Items for the board consider are as follows:

* Overnight Field Trips – Dr. Robert Heavenridge

* Fundraisers – Dr. Heavenridge

* CTE Local Plan – Ms. Williams

* Hearing and Vision Contracts – Ms. Cheryl White-Smith

* Cisco Capital Lease Agreement

* Budget Amendments – Sharon Penny

* Beginning Teacher Support Manual – Dr. Beatty

* Revised Fall Policy Update – Dr. Taylor

A closed session is scheduled to discuss certified/classified personnel, student transfers and legal issues. In open session, the board is scheduled to take action on the certified/classified personnel.

Bladen County Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor is scheduled to give the board a report and Board Chairman Vincent Rozier is also scheduled to give a report.
