After 43 years of service, Niki Dennis has retired from her role as Bladen County Clerk of Superior Court. Niki started working as a clerk at the Bladen County Courthouse in 1979 and was elected the “High Clerk” in 2006.

Over the years, Niki has managed multiple clerks in the criminal, civil, domestic violence, and estate departments. In her role, she also served as the “Probate Judge.” Many believe kindness, professionalism, and respect are the top qualities displayed at the Clerk’s office during Niki’s tenure.

“We are going to miss her,” Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker stated with sincerity in his eyes.

On November 16, 2022, in the Bladen County Superior Courtroom, Niki was presented with a grand gesture of appreciation with a crystal trophy. Sheriff McVicker, other law enforcement officers, attorneys, clerks, and judges celebrated Niki from 2 pm to 4 pm with hors d’oeuvres and reminiscing down memory lane. Niki served as the “High Clerk” through the first week of December 2022.

Linked below is a video interview with Mrs. Dennis published last year.

Challenges and Successes of the Bladen County Clerk of Superior Court

Cristin Hursey won the Clerk’s elected office as the Republican front-runner in the November General Election. She stepped into the Bladen County Clerk of Superior Court position this Monday. At 8:30 am, Cristin swore her oath to the office with her family beside her.

During Cristin’s years in the Bladen County Clerk’s Office, she started as a Deputy Clerk and then moved to an Assistant Clerk. She explained her experience as a Clerk, “I have been a Courtroom Clerk, a Hearing Officer, and an Office Clerk working in all departments; Civil, Criminal, Estates, and Special Proceedings.”

Cristin did not waste any time opening the Clerk’s office after the oath of office ceremony. Below is a photo of the newly elected Bladen County Clerk of Superior Court with the Bladen County Clerks.

Bladen County Register of Deeds, Beverly Parks, and Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker also took their oaths of offices Monday morning. Parks and McVicker were re-elected during the General Election held in November 2022.
