The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and dealt with a light agenda for the first meeting of December.

The first item on the agenda was the contract for the county tax office real estate appraisal services. Bladen County Tax Assessor Renee Davis presented the proposals to the board. The term of the contract is for one year from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017. She said the request for proposals was sent to an NC Department of Revenue approved list.

Of the proposals received, the board voted to award the contract to Gary Piner Appraisal Services Inc. for the term of year and to rebid the contract at the end of one year.

In a second matter Davis also presented the bids for a parcel that was foreclosed upon. According to Davis the parcel consisted of two properties one measuring 44.98 acres and the other 10.8 acres. Davis said she had received a bid from the Nevada Salt Mining Trust and one from Reginald Andrews both for the amount of $11,050. The Andrews bid requested a private sale provided for under the NC General Statues. The board voted to accept the bid from Andrews.

Next Bladen County Department of Health Department Communicable Disease Nurse Sheila Rains gave the board an update on the Communicable Disease program. She gave the board a handout that included some statistics for the county. Rains said that there have been no new cases of HIV and only one new case of syphilis.  She told the board that most prevalent sexually transmitted disease in Bladen County right now is Chlamydia.

Other highlights Rains gave:

*In March, the county had a reported case of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease at a day care and a possible case of measles. Eventually Measles was ruled out.

* The Health Department began receiving phone calls in July about a rash at White Lake. Health Department staff worked With the Division of Water Quality, The Department of Environmental Health to try and learn the cause.

*July also had a case of EEE in a camp In Bladen County. Rains said the child was about 15 years old child and from out of state.

*Bladen Medical Associates had a man who had contracted Zika virus and was referred to the Health Department. Rains said he and his wife were tested and the man tested positive. His wife was 36 weeks pregnant but tested negative for the virus several times.

*Rains also noted there was a Chlorine leak at Smithfield.

*Right now in Bladen county two active cases of Tuberculosis treated patient and her family the other is ours if home and will be coming back

Bladen County Health Human Services Director David Howard also presented the application to the North Carolina Family Planning Program for family planning money. The board approved the application.

Howard gave the board a copy of the Offer Proposal form and the Buyer/Seller Obligations for the sale of the Bladen County Home Health. He said those documents will be sent to a list of 11 agencies. He said that the responses are due back to the county by January 11.

The board tabled a Clarkton Fire District Board Appointment.
