The Bladen County Dementia Friendly Kick-off is planned for Tuesday, February 27, from 1 until 4 p.m. at the Bladen Community College auditorium. The meeting is open to the public.

For those who suffer from dementia, trying to perform simple tasks can become frustrating due to the fact they may forget pertinent information they need or they may become confused about details and events. The purpose of the Dementia Friendly event is to start a dialogue in Bladen County regarding dementia and to begin to equip local business leaders and elected officials with the tools necessary to be able to better assist their customers who may suffer from dementia.

Topics to be discussed on Tuesday include Dementia-Capable North Carolina overview, Dementia-A Caregivers Perspective, and Services and Supports.

There are also upcoming training sessions scheduled which include:

*The Basics of Alzheimer’s Disease on March 20, 2018, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown.

*Effective Communication Strategies on April 10, 2018, from 9 a.m.until 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown.

*Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors on May 8, 2018, from 9 a.m.until 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown.
