Elaine Marshall at White Lake NC
 Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall visited Bladen County this past Wednesday for a “Meet and Greet” hosted by the Bladen County Democratic Party. The event was held at Goldston’s Restaurant, White Lake. Zane Singletary, the Chairman of the Bladen County Democratic Party, welcomed everyone to the event. Singletary said, “I have been in Washington DC, but when I heard that Mrs. Elaine was coming, I had to come home.”Marshall had a speaking engagement, how to avoid being scammed, in Whiteville earlier on Wednesday. Our Secretary of State arrived for the event at the restaurant eager to meet the people of Bladen County and learn how she could help Bladen County even more. She discussed her progress over her 19 years in office and spoke of plans on doing more for our state if she is re-elected this year.

Marshall said, “The Secretary of State office is the heart beat of the business community in North Carolina.” She listed the different aspects her offices handles for businesses, how the office has fought to keep criminals from victimizing business owners and consumers, and how her office helps businesses grow.

According to Marshall 675 people in North Carolina have been scammed out of money for a combined total of $19 million by 19 different criminals. She explained how her office has never lost a case against these scam artists.

Trailblazing the way, Marshall became the first woman ever elected to a statewide, executive branch office in North Carolina. She said, “I feel like I opened the doors for a lot of women.”

According to reports on the NC Department of Secretary of State, during many terms in office Marshall has made great efforts to foster job growth and a friendlier, more open climate for investors and has cracked down on business identity theft.

Currently incumbent Marshall is without any challengers in the primary. The seasoned and well-respected elected official, said she feels good everyday about being a public servant.
