Friday, July 7

If the weather on the first day of election filing is any indication of how the election season will be, it’s going to be hot and sticky. The election filing started at Bladen County Board of elections at noon on Friday, July 7th.

The first candidate through the door was Mr. Robert Kinlaw, better known as Bobby, who left his vacation at the beach to come and file for candidacy of Elizabethtown Town Council.

“I figured I worked for the town for so long, now I can give back with the information and knowledge I’ve gained over the years.” Kinlaw said.

First to register for Bladenboro Township was Kenneth Charles Kelly who was filing to run for Mayor of Bladenboro. Kelly said he was known by almost everyone in Bladenboro and is ready to serve.

Paul Evans came in next to file to keep his seat as a Town of While Lake Commissioner. Other incumbents would also be filing today as well for the Town of White Lake according to Evans.

“The filing fee is $5. We prefer check or money order.” said Cynthia Shaw, Director at the Bladen County Board of Elections. Filing runs through July 7th until July 21st according to Shaw.

Candidates for local office must file notices of candidacy with the Bladen County Board of Elections located at 301 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown. For more information you may call the office at 910-862-6951. Candidates must be at least 21 years old. They also must live and be registered to vote in the electoral district for the office being sought.

Voters must be registered 25 days before an election to vote on Election Day. For the Bladen County November elections, the registration deadline is Oct. 13. Voters may also register and vote during the early voting period using “same-day registration” in places where absentee voting is authorized.
