Bladen County Firefighters were busy this weekend. Our local heroes don’t just answer calls in our county, they do much more. Bladen County Fire Departments joined forces for some intense training, fundraising, and community involvement.

White Oak Fire Department kicked it off with a Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning starting at 7 a.m. According to those in attendance the breakfast was great and the fellowship was even better.

Lt.Ryan Varley, with the department said, “We estimate about 150 plus people came out to support us.”

For those wishing to donate, but was unable to attend, send your donations to White Oak Fire Department, PO Box 130 White Oak, NC 28399.

Varley said, ‘We also welcome new members! We meet the first and third Monday of every month at 7:00pm at our station.”

We spotted Lt. Chad Sholar from the Elizabethtown Fire Department at Jones Lake State Park Fall Festival and Bladenboro Fire Department was at the Bladenboro Beast Fest educating the community about fire safety.

Last but not least we caught Ammon, Clarkton, Dublin, and Elizabethtown Fire Departments working together for some serious training at the Minuteman Food Mart scheduled to be demolished this coming week. Elizabethtown’s Fire Chief Nick West explained the group would be working on ventilation, forceable entry, and escape training.

West also said, “We want to make sure the Campbell’s (owners of the Minuteman Food Mart) know how much we appreciate them offering this building to us for training.”

Clarkton’s Chief Jimmy Mize lead the group of Firefighters in a rescue drill with the store full of smoke. The men practice various scenarios almost all day Saturday while they had access to a facility offering the ability for the group to train a variety of situations.

We were able to video the group of Firefighters training on a rescue. View it on our YouTube Channel, or watch it now.
