Bladen County has the highest improvement rate for the number of organ donor registrations in the state in 2017. Bladen County’s organ donor rate now stands at 37.6 percent.

West Bladen High School Health and Physical Education Teacher Gaye Davis promotes organ donation as it saves many lives each year. By becoming an organ donor, you allow your organs to be made available to others at the time of your death. Organs which can be donated include but are not limited to the heart, the lungs, tissue, corneas, and other organs.

You can also become a “living organ donor” whereby only certain organs, such as a kidney, are donated while you are living.

In an email shared by Mrs. Davis, Tiffianna Elmore with Donate Life N.C. wrote, “In 2017, with your DREAM team and work with West Bladen High, the donation rate had the highest improvement rate ever recorded for that office. It’s now at 37.6 percent. That’s a 3 percent jump in sign up rates in a single year and I credit that totally to your hard work.”

Becoming an organ donor is simple. Go to https://www.donatelifenc.org/ and click the button to register to donate and follow the instructions or you can register at any North Carolina DMV office.
