Bladen County unemployment for August 1985 was 10.2 percent. 1,450 folks, out of 14,160 in the work force, were out of work.

A fire caused an estimated $15,000 damage to Peanut Processors in Dublin. The fire started in an oil roaster. The Dublin VFD responded and stopped the fire from spreading.

The North Carolina Department of Labor reported that in the month of July 1985, there were permits for 47 single units, with a value of $787,500, issued in Bladen County. There were also 4 non-residential unit permits with a value of $88,100 and 12 additions-alteration permits totaling $26,600. All building permits totaling $902,200 for the month.
