The Bladen County Board of Commissioners called upon the Board of Elections to set up a special election for a 1 cent sales tax referendum for the county.

Palmer Products of Clarkton was destroyed completely by fire.

Seven candidates filed for office in the Elizabethtown election. Filing for Mayor was incumbent Cecil Edge, Gordon Kinlaw and Alfred Gene Smith. Filing for Commissioner was Frank Baker, B.T. Bordeaux, Don Wayne and James F. McGuiness.

Bladenboro adopted an ordinance to annex areas west of Bladenboro which would send the population of the city from 792 to 2800.

Gary Cooke of Clarkton High pitched a 5-hitter in their victory over Nakina 8-3.
