• An interstate theft ring, working out of Bladenboro, was broken. Law enforcement agents arrested four people for stealing various amounts of goods from small items to motorcycles.
• Insurance Commissioner John Ingram ordered a 13% reduction in auto liability rates.
• The Rev. Franklin Hooks assumed his duties as Minister of Music and Youth at Elizabethtown Baptist Church.
