Elizabethtown Chief of Police Jimmy Bell announced that the Elizabethtown Police Force had made 386 arrests during 1971.
A Meet, The Candidates Night, was held in the Elizabethtown National Guard Armory. It was hosted by the Bladen Young Democrat Club, with a large crowd attending. Candidates for Governor attending were Lt. Gov. Pat Taylor, Hugh Morton, Dr. Reginald Hawkins, along with candidates for Lt. Governor Representative Allen Barbee and Jim Hunt. Special guest was Mrs. Margaret Harper, State Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Executive Committee.
New Bladen County Hospital Board members were Harry Womble, Luther Brisson, and Mrs. Nathan Cox. They were appointed to serve two-year terms.
