• The Elizabethtown Jaycees had their DSA Banquet with main speaker Lou Holtz, coach of the North Carolina State Wolfpack football team.
• It was a bad week for bootleggers in Bladen County. State Trooper B.L. Wilkes stopped a car for a warning of a defective headlight. Trooper Wilkes detected the smell of liquor about the trunk of the car. Upon opening the trunk Trooper Wilkes discovered 42 gallons of illicit liquor packaged in plastic.
• The Bladen County Sheriff’s office, during the same week, arrested five citizens of the county for manufacturing illicit liquor.
