• Wilbur Ward of Clarkton was named Champion Peanut Producer in North Carolina. Ward produced 1,159.9 pounds of peanuts on 111.3 acres at an average of 15.489 cents per pound. Farmers in Bladen County grew about 4,500 acres of peanuts in 1972.
• NCHP reported six wrecks in Bladen County with $6,750 in damages.
• On the Cape Fear River two loaded barges broke away from moorings at International Paper Co. causing minor damages.
