ELIZABETHTOWN – The Joint Commission announced that Bladen County Hospital achieved Disease-Specific Care Certification for the treatment of Pneumonia.

Bladen County Hospital earned the certification by successfully demonstrating compliance with national standards for care, and taking an organizational approach toward performance improvement.

About 1 million people seek care for pneumonia each year in the U.S., with more than 50,000 eventually dying from complications. Early treatment is pivotal for survival. The best healthcare facilities follow best practices in treating such patients.

This is the second Disease-Specific Care Certification Bladen County Hospital has received from The Joint Commission. The other certification is for Sepsis treatment.

The Joint Commission launched its certification program in 2002 to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care. Certification benefits include patient care quality improvement, better staff recruitment and development, and recognition by health insurers.
