Last Friday, July 7th, 2017, Bladen County Board of Elections opened its doors to local citizens wanting to file for candidacy during the up coming municipal election. This election one local Bladen County town will have at least three candidates to choose from for Mayor.

According to the Bladen Board of Elections Candidate Detail List Bladenboro has three citizens filed to run for Bladenboro Mayor. The first to file for the seat of Bladenboro Mayor was Kenneth Charles Kelly. Next to file for the seat was the incumbent Mayor, Rufus Ralph Duckworth III. The coveted seat gained another candidate by the name of Larry Waitus Simmons as of Tuesday, July 11th.

According to the list distributed by the elections board, there are 13 candidates currently filed in four different municipalities. Bladenboro, Clarkton, Elizabethtown and White Lake are the four towns listed with candidates for their local elections.

“The filing fee is $5. We prefer check or money order.” said Cynthia Shaw, Director at the Bladen County Board of Elections. Filing runs through July 7th until July 21st according to Shaw.

Candidates for local office must file notices of candidacy with the Bladen County Board of Elections located at 301 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown. For more information you may call the office at 910-862-6951. Candidates must be at least 21 years old. They also must live and be registered to vote in the electoral district for the office being sought.

Voters must be registered 25 days before an election to vote on Election Day. For the Bladen County November elections, the registration deadline is Oct. 13. Voters may also register and vote during the early voting period using “same-day registration” in places where absentee voting is authorized.

The election will be held on November 7th, 2017.
