Bladen County has lost two of its long-time fire service members. Jack “Jackie” Singletary of Tar Heel and Myron Storms of Garland, both former fire chiefs in Bladen County, passed away recently.

Mr. Singletary served as fire chief with the Tar Heel Fire Department for 13 years and spent a total of 20 years as a volunteer firefighter. He was also very active in his community. He served on the Board of Education for several years and was chairman of the Bladen County ASCS.

Jackie is survived by mother: Mavis Hursey Singletary of Tar Heel; three sons: Jack Singletary and wife Sandra of Tar Heel, Jeromy Singletary and wife Candice of Tar Heel, Kodey Singletary and companion Morgan Campbell of Tar Heel; daughter: Kayla Singletary and companion Justin Cole; his special friend: Kim Jordan; sister: Wanda Herring and husband Terry of Tar Heel; niece: Lyndsey Powers; five grandchildren: Zach Dixon, Breanna Singletary, Andrew Sessoms, Nolan Sessoms, Chastity Singletary; great-grandchild: Ezra, and a special granddog Daisy.

Funeral services for Mr. Singletary were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Tar Heel Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Storms was a charter member of the Hickory Grove Fire Department and board president on NC 210 East in Bladen County. He served as fire chief of the fire department for several years as well as a serving as a volunteer firefighter.

Mr. Storms is survived by two sons, Michael Storms (Debbie) of Clarkton, Brian Storms (Crystal) of Clarkton; two grandchildren: Melynda Storms, Brittany Simmons; two great-grandchildren: Hunter Simmons, and Hayleigh Simmons.

Funeral services for Mr. Storms will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church and burial will follow in the Cromartie Cemetery.
