A 62 year old man was killed Thursday, August 20, when his 1993 Toyota Camry collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 17 near Bolivia in Brunswick County.

David Christopher Satrazemis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Terry Maurice Baxley, 49, of White Oak, operator of the tractor-trailer, is facing charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The report indicated his trailer was ‘completely stretched across the southbound lanes of travel’ while it was still dark. The underlying cause of the accident appeared to be a yield violation.

Satrazemis was reportedly traveling south on U.S. 17, near the speed limit when his auto struck the trailer and then a road sign. The top was sheared from the Toyota. An unidentified passenger in the auto was not seriously hurt. Reports indicate both drivers were wearing seat belts and both vehicles appear to be in compliance so far as lighting was concerned. The accident occurred near 6 a.m.

The deceased man and his passenger were reportedly headed to the Myrtle Beach, SC airport.

Baxley was booked at the Brunswick Detention Facility, and released on a $15,000 unsecured bond.
