TAR HEEL – Malcolm Bolden fired in 26 points Tuesday to lead Elizabethtown to a 49-34 victory over Bladenboro in the Bladen County Middle School Boys Tournament.

Bolden nailed a 3-point shot and threw in 3 other baskets in the opening quarter. Michael Young and Deonte Lacy answered with 2 baskets each for the Bulldogs, and Young hit a free throw to keep the teams tied 11-11 at the quarter break.

Bolden drained another 3-point shot and 2 other baskets in the second period. Jacob Nixon bombed in a 3-point shot and another basket as the Cougars built a 24-18 halftime lead.

Hezekiah Adams, Landon Stanley and Gary Parker netted baskets for the Bulldogs in the second quarter.

Phillip McKiver tossed in a trio of baskets in the third quarter for Elizabethtown. Nixon buried a 3-point shot and another basket, and Bolden popped in 2 more baskets as the lead stretched to 39-30.

Jabari Adams flipped in a pair of baskets for the Bulldogs, and Stanley drilled in a 3-point shot and hit a free throw.

Bolden canned 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final quarter, and Nixon cashed in a trio of free throws as the Cougars pulled away. Lacy dropped in a pair of baskets for the Bulldogs.

Nixon finished with 13 points for the Cougars, and McKiver added 7 points. Lacy topped the Bladenboro scoring with 11 points. Young finished with 7 points, and Stanley totaled 6 points.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars, now 5-1, will play Tar Heel Thursday at 5:15 in the tournament championship game. Bladenboro drops to 3-2 and will play at Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.
