The Bladen County Health Department has opened a confidential Bladen County telephone referral service for residential substance use treatment at the Healing Place of New Hanover County.

Bladen County adults who are interested in admission to the Healing Place of New Hanover County for a substance use problem can call 910-874-6098 and request a referral for services. The line is open 24 hours per day.

Bladen County has contracted with the new facility in Wilmington to provide residential short- and long-term treatment for people from Bladen who have a substance use problem. The call line is for people requesting residential treatment only, at this time. Future plans include expanding the phone line referral service to a wider variety of outpatient and crisis intervention services.

Bladen County has been working to establish a basic array of substance abuse services for county residents in order to establish a Recovery Oriented System of Care. In 2019, Bladen County finalized a needs assessment and identified a strategic plan to enhance its ability to deal with the growing problems related to opioids and other substance abuse issues occurring throughout the county.

The 2022 award of the Opioid Settlement Funds has allowed Bladen County to contract with the Healing Place of New Hanover County for substance use crisis, short- and longer-term treatment services modeled on the successful Healing Place model which originated in Louisville, Kentucky.
