Grab those canned goods and clean out your pantry for a great cause—Bladen County is rolling up its sleeves for a community-wide Food Drive to benefit the Bladen Crisis Center, happening May 5th through May 9th.
Sponsored by Bladen County DSS, this food drive isn’t just about donations—it’s about neighbors helping neighbors, one can at a time. Residents are encouraged to drop off non-perishable items at 208 East McKay Street, Elizabethtown, NC throughout the week.
“This is a time for our community to come together and support families who might be facing tough times,” said a DSS spokesperson. “Whether it’s one item or a whole bag, every donation makes a difference.”
Suggested items include canned vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, pasta, peanut butter, boxed meals, and other shelf-stable goods. Basically, if it won’t spoil and could help a family put together a meal, it’s fair game—just leave the perishable and expired items at home.
The Bladen Crisis Center supports individuals and families in emergency situations, and with food insecurity on the rise in many rural areas, this drive offers a much-needed boost to their shelves.
So, while you’re stocking up for summer cookouts, consider grabbing an extra jar of peanut butter or an extra can of beans for someone who could use it. A little generosity goes a long way—and you won’t even have to chase turkeys around a pen to feel like a hero.
Let’s show what Bladen County is made of: compassion, community, and a whole lot of canned goods.
