Saturday was a day of calm ahead of what’s expected to be a couple of windy, rainy days as Bladen County braces for another round of soaking Sunday and Monday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting as much as 3 inches of rain for Bladen County through Monday before the system clears out Tuesday night.

Bladen County received about 5 inches of rain Friday, causing some minor road flooding and a few vehicle accidents, said Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw.

“Other than just water crossing some roadways after the heavy rain we had Friday night, there hasn’t been any major problems,” Kinlaw said Sunday morning. “Most of the water receded Saturday. There was no house flooding that we’re aware of.

“So far, Bladen has done very well accepting all this rain. Friday, we had several motor vehicle accidents  Friday, but nothing major. When we start getting more of this heavy rain people need to take caution and stay at home if they can. We’re still in a ready state.”

If there is measurable rain recorded Sunday and Monday, it would be 12 consecutive days of rain in Bladen County.

Bladen County is under the following advisories from the National Weather Service:

** Wind advisory until 6 p.m. Sunday. Winds are expected from the northeast at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35. Strong and persistent winds in combination with ongoing rain could bring down some trees and power lines.

** Flash flood watch until 8 p.m. Monday. Road washouts may occur and streams and rivers may leave their banks. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

** A flood warning has been issued for the Cape Fear River at William O. Huske Lock and Dam No. 3 and at Elizabethtown Lock and Dam No. 2 until further notice. At 8 a.m. Sunday, Huske Lock and Dam No. 3 was more than 2 feet above its flood stage of 42 feet and is expected to crest at 47.5 feet by Monday morning. At the Elizabethtown locks, the flood stage is 25 feet. The river is expected to rise to 27.1 feet early Tuesday morning. A current stage reading was not available.
