The North Carolina Department of Transportation is busy in Bladen County. The Elwell Ferry is closed and there are roads closed and lane shifts.
ELWELL FERRY:
Elwell Ferry is closed due to electrical problems. It will re-open as soon as problem is resolved and it is safe to open.
It is closed from November 25, 2019 through December 6, 2019.
Roads Closed with detors:
The Mercer Mill Road near NC-41 is closed for Bridge No. 770435 on SR 2101 over Jackson Swamp until April 26, 2020 or construction is completed, according to NCDOT.
NC 410 and NC 41 will both be closed to allow the construction of a Roundabout at the intersection of NC 410 and NC 41 near Bladen Community College. The roundabout will replace the all way stop that is currently at the intersection. The date NCDOT gives for the project to be completed is June 24, 2020.
The detour traffic on NC 410 will use SR 1107, Pleasant Grove Church Rd, as the detour route. The detour route for NC 41 will use NC 131 to SR 1107, Center Rd, back to NC 41. Please use caution while driving on this new pattern and be aware that the detour routes have existing stop signs at some intersections.
Lane Shift:
On US-701 the northbound bridge has been closed until February 2020 due to inspections according to NCDOT. There have been no updates on the findings of the inspections since the bridge was closed on November 22, 2019. Traffic has been rerouted to the southbound bridge. No wide loads are to cross the southbound bridge.
Andrew Barksdale with the NCDOT said in November the date in February given to re-open the bridge is just an estimated time. We will update our site with more details as soon as more information is available on the bridge.
