Bladen County Schools Announce Exceptional Children Department Public Notice

May 3, 2021- The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA-Part B, Public Law
108.446) Project is presently being amended. The Project describes the special
education programs that Bladen County Schools proposes for Federal funding for the 2021-2022 School Year. Interested persons are encouraged to review amendments to the Project and make comments concerning the implementation of special education under this Federal Program.

All comments will be considered prior to submission of the amended Project to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh, North Carolina. The IDEA-Part B Project is open to the public for review and comments during the week of May 17, 2021, in the office of the Cheryl White-Smith, Director of Exceptional Children located at 1489 Hwy 701 South, Elizabethtown, NC 23887.

The EC Division is entering into a several-month process of data analysis and assessing our current ability to improve outcomes for students with disabilities (SWD). The main way we measure progress for SWD at the state and local level is through 17 performance indicators identified by the federal Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). NCDPI is required to set new targets for most of these indicators and write a new State Performance Plan every 5-6 years. We are starting a new 5-year cycle of our State Performance Plan in February 2022. We want to partner with you to set the new indicator targets and write our new plan.

To facilitate your partnership in writing the new State Performance Plan, we have scheduled two virtual 2-hour stakeholder meetings per month, April-November, 2021; one meeting will be on a Tuesday morning and one on a Thursday evening (see schedule below). The two meetings each month will be identical—you only need to attend one to fully participate—so please choose the option that best fits your ability to participate for the entire meeting. Each month we will orient you to our current data for 2-3 indicators, options for new targets, and potential improvement strategies to meet the new targets. Following the orientation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input.
