The Bladen County Board of Education has a regularly scheduled meeting today. Also, today the Bladen County Schools district announced they would provide a live data metrics dashboard on their website.

The district’s site says, “We’ve put together a LIVE Data Metrics Dashboard that shows the specific impact of COVID-19 inside the school district. The idea is to simply have a place where the public can go to see what the current situation is inside the district.”

The site’s statement continued, “Only positive cases and quarantine cases that are given to us by the Bladen County Health Department will be listed on the chart. Data shown are effective as of 6/25/2020.”

Examples of numbers that will be listed on the Dashboard:

✔️ A student/employee test positive

Examples of numbers that will NOT be listed on the Dashboard:

❌ Anyone who does not have a direct impact on school campuses/buildings (like a 100% Full Semester Remote-Learner or community member who test positive but is never on campus)

❌ Someone who goes home feeling sick but has yet to be tested (we would update the chart once given confirmation from the health department)

Dates and locations will be included in the district’s press releases but identities will not. Total cases and total recovered cases will be included.

This can be a useful tool for anyone to use to see how COVID-19 is impacting our district as we move through the school year. It can also be of use to combat rumors should you hear about something. Just go to the dashboard to check. If it’s confirmed by the health department, it will be on the Dashboard soon after we receive the information.

The October Board of Education meeting will be conducted virtually and will be held on Monday, October 12, beginning at 6 p.m. This is an official meeting and action items and personnel matters will be on the agenda, as per NCGS 143.318.11 (a) (1) and to consult with an attorney, if needed, as per the NCGS 143.318.11 (a) (3).

A hyperlink will be activated prior to the meeting to allow the public to listen to the meeting virtually. The meeting link will be published and accessible on the Bladen County Schools’ website at www.bladen.k12.nc.us, and on the Bladen County Schools’ Facebook and Twitter social media pages at https://www.facebook.com/BladenCountySchools/ and https://twitter.com/BladenCountySch

Any person wishing to share comments or concerns with the board during the citizen participation section of the agenda needed to email their comment or concern to comments@bladen.k12.nc.us no later than 12 noon on Friday, October 9, 2020.
