The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office conducted a promotion ceremony on Wednesday morning at their new facility on Smith Circle. 

Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker took a moment to recognize his staff, Jewel Smith, Sheryl Young and Sonya Heustess. He also recognized the Sheriff Office’s Command staff which consists of Captain Jeff Singletary, Captain Jeff Bridges and Captain Jeff Tyler, and Sgt. Andrew Powell.

The Sheriff’s Office recognized Jenny Hair on her retirement from the Bladen County 911 Communications. Hair has worked as a teacher, she has worked with the Lumberton Police Department and Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. She was given a plaque to commemorate her retirement which was effective on September 30. 

Sheriff McVicker stated that when he first came to Bladen County in 1988, Hair was one fo the first people he met. 

“She has been very instrumental in a lot of things,” said Sheriff McVicker. 

“It’s bittersweet,” said Hair following the ceremony.

In addition to honoring Hair, several deputies and tele-communicators received promotions. Those receiving promotions were: James Monroe who was promoted to the rank of Sgt.; Shawn Caison who was promoted to the rank of Corporal; Cley Carroll was promoted to the rank of Criminal Investigator; Greg Bullard received recognition for completing a criminal investigation certification program and he was presented the Advanced Law Enforcement certification; and Sarah Murphy was promoted to the rank of Assistant 911 Supervisor. 

Sheriff McVicker took the time to thank the families and friends who gathered to watch the ceremony. 

“These families out here (today), God bless you for being here. We have done very well because of your support,” said Sheriff McVicker. 

Sheriff McVicker expressed his gratitude to all of the deputies and the civilian personnel of the Sheriff’s Office for their hard work and dedication. 

“God bless them all, God bless every one of you all for your support,” said Sheriff McVicker.
