Youth from Southeastern North Carolina were excited and intrigued about the youth leadership conference for high school juniors in the 7th Congressional District on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. Congressman David Rouzer hosted the NC-07 Youth Leadership and Entrepreneurial Conference.

Rouzer said he wanted to put together an exciting program that focused on values based leadership and also give the students a flavor of entrepreneurialism.

“Over all I wanted to put a program together that underscored the importance of the values that are so important to being successful,” Rouzer said.

General Hugh Shelton and with the Leadership Center at North Carolina State University and University of  North Carolina at Wilmington Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship were involved in the conference.

Also, Tatiana Birgisson, Owner of MATI Energy Drinks spoke about how she became a business owner. Colonel Quincy Collins, Former Vietnam POW spoke about overcoming adversity and going beyond survival.

There was a lineup of speakers and engaging activities focused on values-based leadership and the personal traits and qualities that lead to lasting success.

Every high school in the 7th District was asked to participate in the first annual 7th Congressional District Youth Leadership and Entrepreneurship Conference.  East Bladen High School, Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy and West Bladen High School all had representatives at the conference.

Rouzer did say he is planning on making the conference an annual event. 

High School Juniors in the Seventh Congressional District of Southeastern NC will have the opportunity to attend the First Annual Youth Leadership Conference on Apr. 5.

Two juniors from each high school in the congressional district will be selected to attend and meet with entrepreneurial leaders and discuss ways to develop personal and professional skills. It will take place at the Sampson County Agri-Exposition Center in Clinton in Preston Hall between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The General Hugh Shelton Leadership Center at NC State University and the UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship partnered to lineup speakers and activities for the conference.

Each school chose its own method to select students to attend.
