This week has already been exciting one for a lot of Bladen County students, teachers, parents and friends. Tuesday was the last day of the two day Junior Beta Club Convention held in Greensboro.

Bladen County students from Bladenboro Middle School, Clarkton School of Discovery, Columbus Charter School, Elizabethtown Middle School, East Arcadia Middle School, Tar Heel Middle School, and Harrells Christian Academy all competed in some form or fashion at the state level convention.

Bladenboro Middle School led in the award winnings for talent from Bladen County. As a group the school brought home first place in the T-shirt Design and Scrapbook competition and third place in the Art’s and Sweepstakes category. The school’s students, Cadee Bryan won first place in the Sculpture competition, Kailey Gause won second place in the Pastels and Alexis Allen won second place in the jewelry making competition.

Clarkton School of Discovery students finished with awards as well. The school’s club finished second place in the Group Talent Competition. Jake Evans won first place in the Essay Contest, and Garrett Melvin accepted the school’s second place award for T-Shirt design.

Andrew Cahn from Clarkton School of Discovery was a candidate for the state level Chaplin and Savanah Grace Jones from Columbus Charter School was a candidate for Vice-President. Neither were elected, however, both the candidates and the schools ran stellar campaigns.

Autumn Brisson gave her farewell speech as the State Junior Beta Club’s Vice-President. “It was truly an honor,” Brisson said and then she thanked everyone who has helped her along the way.

Bladenboro Middle School is planning on attending the National Junior Beta Club Convention held in New Orleans, June 23 through June 26, according to Polly Hancock. The trip will be expensive, so fundraising will be necessary. If you would like to support the Bladen County students attending the national convention, contact Hancock at Bladenboro Middle School at 910-863-3232.
