Three people who were charged as part of an undercover narcotics investigation dubbed Operation Summertime Shakedown have agreed to plea deals in Bladen County Superior Court and received suspended sentences and supervised probation.
The three-month operation that resulted in 14 arrests and ended in early July 2015 targeted the sale and delivery of prescription pills, cocaine and marijuana mostly in the Bladenboro area.
Those sentenced during the court’s session Wednesday and Thursday were:
** Ted Roland Smith Sr., 68, of Bladenboro: Pled guilty to selling a Schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine) and Schedule III controlled substance (prescription pills). Sentenced to 24 months supervised probation and to pay $230 restitution. In a court summary, Smith was twice captured on video in May 2015 selling narcotics to an undercover agent.
** Jonathan Lynn Shaw, 26, of Bladenboro: Pled guilty to selling a Schedule IV controlled substance (prescription pills). Sentenced to 12 months supervised probation, to perform 48 hours of community service and to pay $110 restitution. In a court summary, an undercover agent was observed purchasing prescription pills in May 2015 from Shaw.
** Billy Ray Taylor Jr., 41, of Bladenboro: Pled guilty to selling and manufacturing a Schedule II controlled substance (oxycodone). Sentenced to 36 months supervised probation, which, if there are no violations after 18 months, would be unsupervised. In a court summary, Taylor sold six oxycodone pills which he had been prescribed to an undercover agent.
Included among other plea agreements reached were:
** Michael Kemp, 49, of Elizabethtown: Pled guilty to possession of stolen goods. Sentenced to 24 months supervised probation and to pay $250 restitution. In a court summary, Kemp stole tires from Murphy Brown LLC in February 2015.
** Eric Leon Black, 33: Pled guilty to manufacturing cocaine and possession of firearm by felon. Sentenced to a split of 201 days in custody, which he has served, and placed on 30 months supervised probation, which, if there are no violations after 18 months, would be unsupervised. In a court summary, at a license check on Chickenfoot Road in July 2015, officers found a stolen gun and two bags of cocaine packaged for resale in a vehicle that Black was a passenger. The vehicle had turned off prior to reaching the checkpoint and officers pursued.
** Bernard Ernest Murchison, 53: Pled guilty to two counts of selling cocaine. Sentenced to 31 months in custody. In a court summary, twice in January 2015 Murchison sold 0.8 grams of cocaine to an undercover agent, once at his home and once in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Elizabethtown.
** Tonya Carroll Guyton, 35: Pled guilty to aid and abet a larceny. Sentenced to 18 months supervised probation and to pay $300 restitution. In a court summary, Guyton assisted in disposing of property valued in excess of $1,000 stolen from a storage shed at a home in Bladenboro.
** Anthony McLeod, 34: Pled guilty to larceny from the person. Sentenced to a split of 30 days in custody, which he has served, and 24 months supervised probation, to pay $150 restitution and to have no contact with the victim. In a court summary, in December 2015, McLeod asked to borrow $20 from a resident of McKay Street Apartments in Elizabethtown. When denied, McLeod asked for a drink of water and entered the residence. McLeod then took the wallet of the resident, which had $140 in cash and other items.
** Tina Ilene Partain, 47: Pled guilty to obtain property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods or property. Sentenced to a minimum of 16 months and a maximum of 29 months in custody. In a court summary, in January 2015, Partain took her uncle’s truck which had tools valued at about $1,200. She went to Pawn South in Bladenboro and, claiming the tools were hers, sold them for $190.
** Anthony Victor Porter, 47: Pled guilty to conspiracy breaking and entering. Sentenced to 90 days in custody and 24 months probation, and ordered not to go on the property of Murphy-Brown LLC. In a court summary, Porter participated in the theft of a lawn mower, tools and other property belonging to Murphy-Brown LLC.
** Nathaniel Monroe, 22: Pled guilty to possession of firearm by felon and manufacture Schedule VI controlled substance. Sentenced to a minimum of 17 months and a maximum of 30 months in custody. In a court summary, during a traffic stop, an officer detected an odor of marijuana and observed a gun sticking out from the seat. A search of the vehicle found prescription pills and 178 grams of marijuana.
