Bladen County teachers Teresa Wiles and Shanna Harrelson have been awarded Four County EMC Bright Ideas education grants, the utility announced.

Wiles, who teaches at Clarkton School of Discovery, was awarded $1,639.64 for her project North Carolina Legends: Treasures in Our Own Backyard!

Harrelson, who teaches at West Bladen High School, was awarded $1,315 for her project Integration of Honors Science and EC Adaptive Students, Cooperative Learning at its Best an Most Tactile.

Four County EMC awarded $19,860 in Bright Ideas education grants to 22 teachers in its coverage area of Bladen, Duplin, Pender and Sampson counties.

“The Bright Ideas grant winners are making a real difference for students,” said Gay Johnson, director of corporate communications for Four County EMC. “Their creative projects will no doubt help students reach their full potential and spark higher interest in learning for years to come.”

Since the program began in 1994, Four County EMC has contributed more than $377,660 to local teachers. North Carolina’s electric cooperatives collectively have awarded more than $9.6 million to teachers across the state for 9,200 projects in all subjects, benefiting more than 1.8 million North Carolina students.
