UnemploymentUnemployment in all 100 North Carolina counties rose during the month of January. The highest rate recorded was 15.5 percent in Hyde County. The lowest rate recorded was 4.5 percent in Buncombe. 12 counties recorded rates of 5 percent or below. 82 counties had rates between 5-10 percent and 6 counties had rates above 10 percent. Other than the 8.1 percent recorded in Bladen County, other southeastern counties with the same rate were Brunswick and Columbus. Other southeastern North Carolina counties and their rates were: Cumberland 7.2, Duplin 6.3, Hoke 7.5, New Hanover 5.6, Onslow 6.4, Robeson 8.2 and Sampson 6.3.
