The Grand Marshall for Bladen County’s 29th Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade scheduled for Monday, January 16th at 11 a.m. was announced today by parade organizer, Mr. Arthur Bullock. Martin Luther King,  Jr. Day celebrates the life and accomplishment of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The Civil Rights leader promoted a dream of ending racism according to his many speeches still taught in our schools today.

The official Grand Marshall for our local parade was locally born and raised in East Arcadia, Ms. Shonteia Keaton. Ms. Keaton is the mother of three wonderful children.  Ms. Keaton received her education through Bladen County schools and has a lot of ties within the Bladen County Community.  Ms. Keaton and her family are members of Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church, where Reverend Dr. Q. Jimmel Williamson is the presiding pastor.

Ms. Keaton earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Shaw University, and a dual Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development and Leadership & Management from Webster University. She has been with Bladen County Government for four years serving first as a Foster Care Social Worker, and more recently as the CAP (Community Alternatives Program) Supervisor at the Health Department.

Ms. Keaton loves her community and is grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Human Resources Director because she wants to ensure that the employees and citizens are served with compassion, respect, and fairness.  Ms. Keaton understands that her job as the Bladen County Human Resources Director is no easy task, but she works hard every day to make sure that she is serving her county with dignity.  She feels that it is simply an honor to be chosen as the HR Director, and is working hard to do her absolute best to help others.

Her motto is “taking small steps to achieve major goals”
