Guard Jordan Robinson drained six 3-point shots, and Majuan McKoy posted a double-double to lead Elizabethtown to a 54-48 boys basketball victory over Bladenboro Thursday night in the Bladen Five Conference Tournament Championship Game at Bladenboro.

Robinson led the Eagle sco with 18 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds. Majuan McKoy tallied 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Teammate Allen Owens threw in 10 points, and Cody Butler added 6 points and 5 rebounds. Nijeah McKoy collected 6 rebounds.

Guard Shy’Ron Adams also racked up a double-double for Bladenboro, pouring in 29 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Adams also had 5 steals.

Guard Da’Shawn Hines filled the stat sheet with 6 points, 6 steals and 7 rebounds. Logan West finished with 5 points, 3 steals and 3 rebounds. Forward Austin Smith scored 4 points, and Jake Butler finished with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Bulldogs only dressed 7 players for the game after losing one starter and one reserve to a disciplinary problem at school.

The Cougars controlled the first 8 minutes of action and built a 15-point lead. Owens dropped in a lay-up, and Majuan McKoy turned a Robinson assist into a lay-up and a 4-0 lead.

Jake Butler popped in a 15-footer for the Bulldogs, but Robinson drilled a 3-point shot, Majuan McKoy banked in a 10-footer and Owens fired in a 3-pointer for a 12-3 Cougar lead.

Adams stole the ball and raced for a Bulldog lay-up, but Robinson bombed in another 3-pointer, and Majuan McKoy scooped in a runner for a 17-5 Cougar lead at the quarter break.

Robinson nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key, and Majuan McKoy put back a rebound that stretched the Elizabethtown lead to 22-5.

Adams ignited a Bulldog rally with a steal that resulted in a lay-up, and Logan West buried a 3-pointer from the right wing. Adams dashed end-to-end for another lay-up then made a free throw that sliced the deficit to 22-13.

Majuan McKoy worked the paint for a 3-point play and a 25-13 lead, but Hines hit a free throw, and Adams scooted end-to-end for another lay-up. Adams sank 2 free throws to close the gap to 25-18.

Corey McKoy converted a Majuan McKoy assist into a short jumper, but Bladenboro’s Nolan Bryant tossed in a follow shot, and Adams scooped in a lay-up that pulled the Bulldogs to within 27-22 at halftime.

Robinson opened the second half by launching a 3-point bomb, but Hines banked in a runner for the Bulldogs. Robinson found Cody Butler inside for a lay-up then connected on another 3-pointer to extend the Cougar lead to 35-24.

Adams threaded a pass through traffic to Smith for a lay-up, but another Robinson assist produced another Cody Butler lay-up. Hines beat the press for a lay-up and added a free throw.

Adams darted end-to-end for another lay-up that narrowed the gap to 37-31, but Majuan McKoy dropped in a transition lay-up.

Adams sandwiched a follow shot and a lay-up around a pair of Owens free throws that kept Elizabethtown ahead 41-35 at the quarter break.

Owens and Robinson sandwiched 3-point bombs around a West lay-up that vaulted the Cougar lead to 47-37 with 4:13 on the clock.

Adams hit a free throw, bounced another assist to Smith for a lay-up, then scampered end-to-end for another lay-up that brought the Bulldogs to within 47-42 at the 3:13 mark.

Another Robinson assist set up Cody Butler for another lay-up, and JaQuez McKoy canned a 3-pointer from the left wing that widened the Cougar lead to 52-42 with 1:39 left.

Another end-to-end dash by Adams who also popped in 4 more free throws pulled the Bulldogs to within 52-48 with 5 seconds remaining. Two Majuan McKoy free throws sealed the verdict.

Coach Demetrius McLaurin’s Cougars finished the season with a 9-1 record. Coach Phillip Penny’s Bulldogs wound up with a 6-4 record.
