Nurses Week is celebrated internationally each year May 6-12. Locally,  Bladen Healthcare invites all nurses-past, present and future- to celebrate two special events during this week.

Monday, May 9, at 2 p.m. the annual Blessing of the Hands will be held at the Nightingale Tree, located at Bladen Healthcare. This ceremony is a non-denominational, cherished hospital tradition.  The blessing provides a spiritual renewal for nurses, linking the art of nursing with the science of nursing practice.  Each year we gather to celebrate “our calling” and the unique gifts of each nurse. The Nurses Week Committee has chosen Dr. Pearly Graham-Hoskins to lead the ceremony.

Thursday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. nurses, family and friends are asked to join Bladen Healthcare in our second, annual Nurses Candlelight Walk.  The event  will start at the Elizabethtown Farmers Market and walk one block . Nurses are asked to wear white if possible.  Candles will be provided.   The walk is a time of remembrance for deceased nurses and to honor retired  and current nurses. It is a time of reflection and renewal of our commitment to the nursing profession.

Nurses attending these events often remark that it was the highlight of Nurses Week! Both experiences are difficult to explain, for it is felt within the heart.  For additional information please contact Patricia Smith at 910-862-5177 or Tiffany Pait at 910-862-1293, Nurses Week Committee Co-chairpersons.
