BLADENBORO – West Bladen poured in 25 points in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters and rolled to a 73-38 boys basketball victory over Dillon Christian Wednesday in the Bladen Offroad Christmas Tournament.
Coach Travis Pait’s Knights improved to 7-3 and will play Whiteville Thursday at 4 p.m. in the tournament’s 5th place game.
Sophomore Malachi Allen led the Knight attack with 15 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Gary Parker tossed in 12 points. Freshmen Hezekiah Adams and Chase Williams popped in 10 points each. Williams also grabbed 6 rebounds.
Senior Travail Baldwin and Javonta Matthews scored 9 points each for West. Baldwin pulled down 7 rebounds. Matthews corralled 5 rebounds, and senior Josiah Brown tallied 5 points and had 3 steals.
Grayson Singletary who is the grandson of Bladen County’s Jerry and Patsy Singletary lit up the scoreboard with 27 points for Dillon Christian. Singletary connected on four 3-point shots in the game.
Allen nailed a trio of 3-point shots in the opening period, and Williams put back a rebound basket then turned a feed from senior Keshawn Ballard into a lay-up as West took a 13-8 lead at the quarter break.
Matthews powered in a rebound, added a free throw then flipped in a transition lay-up to start the 2nd period. Ballard and Adams bombed in 3-point shots, Brown and Parker drove for 2 lay-ups each, and Adams pumped in a baseline jumper. Allen dropped in a follow shot, and Williams popped in an 8-footer as the halftime lead grew to 38-17.
Williams began the 2nd half with a short jumper, and Adams raced end-to-end for a lay-up. Baldwin drove for a pair of lay-ups. Allen put back a rebound, and Adams turned a steal into a lay-up. Parker’s pass through traffic produced a Matthews lay-up.
A Baldwin in-bounds pass resulted in a Williams lay-up. An Adams assist led to a Parker lay-up, and Baldwin scored on a follow shot then drained a 3-point shot as the lead grew to 63-24 at the quarter break.
Parker started the final period with a pair of lay-ups. Allen sent a feed to Matthews for a lay-up then converted 2 foul shots. Parker capped the West scoring with a dunk in transition.
