Bladen Recreation 11-12 Softball
Racers 9, Force 5

Karli Priest and Amber Jones combined to pitch a 3-hitter Tuesday night and lead the Racers to a 9-5 victory over the Force in Bladen Recreation 11-12 Softball action at County Park.

Priest worked the first 3 innings in the circle and allowed 2 runs on 5 walks and a hit while striking out four. Jones pitched 2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 6 walks, 2 hits, and 2 hit batters while recording one strike-out.

The Racers jumped in front with 3 runs in the first inning. Zoe Smith walked, Emma Turbeville was hit by a pitch, and Priest and Hannah Cole drew walks that forced home Smith. Jones’ fielder’s choice plated Turbeville, and Cole scored the third run of the inning.

Nicole King was hit by a pitch and scored in the second inning to pad the Racer lead to 4-0.

The Force rallied to within 4-2 in the third inning. Ava Mohr and Brooke Priest drew walks, and Taylor Lewis’ fielder’s choice scored Mohr. Lauren Gooden slammed a double to centerfield that scored Priest.

The Racers answered with 4 runs in the home third to stretch their lead to 8-2. Mary Katelyn Lennon walked, and Smith belted a single. Turbeville ripped a single to left that scored Lennon. Priest smacked a single that plated Smith, and Hailey Guyton hammered a triple to left-centerfield that scored Turbeville and Priest.

In the Force fourth inning, Kolee Wilkins drew a walk, and Kylee Ward smacked a single. Madilyn Brisson’s fielder’s choice scored Wilkins.

Lewis walked and Gooden was hit by a pitch to begin the Force fifth inning. Hannah Pait’s infield hit loaded the bases, and walks to Wilkins and Ward forced home Lewis and Gooden and trimmed the margin to 8-5.

Weslyn Hall drew a walk in the Racer fifth inning and raced home when Trinity Ross cracked a single.

Guyton’s 2-run triple led the Racer attack, and Priest, Smith, Turbeville and Ross connected for one hit each.

Gooden’s run-scoring double led the Force hitters. Ward and Pait added one hit each. Gooden pitched all 4.1 innings and struck out six, while giving up 9 runs on 5 hits, 6 walks and 2 hit batters.

The Racers improved to 3-0 with the victory.
