An 8-run fourth-inning rally snapped a 5-5 tie and carried the Sandpipers to a 13-7 victory over the Racers Thursday night in Bladen Recreation 11-12 softball action at County Park.

The Sandpipers capitalized on ten walks, a hit batter and Alexus Mitchell’s run-scoring single to score 8 runs in the top of the fourth inning and take a 13-5 lead.

Lainey Autry and Maegan Burney drew 2 walks each in the inning, and Acee Campbell, AnnaGrey Heustess, Kayla Norris, Briley Stanley, Tyresha McNair, and Daenata Edler walked one time each in the fourth. Campbell, Autry, Heustess, Mitchell, Norris, Stanley, McNair and Edler scored runs in the inning.

The Racers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth as Sydney Gardner and Mary Katelyn Lennon drew walks and scored to trim the margin to 13-7.

Campbell and Heustess drew walks and scored runs in the Sandpiper first inning. Mitchell knocked in a run in the first with a single.

Katlynn Tatum was hit by a pitch in the Racer half of the first and scored a run.

The Sandpipers tacked on 3 runs in the second to pad their lead to 5-1. Campbell walked, stole a base and raced home when Autry ripped a single through the middle. Autry stole a base and scored when Burney belted a single. After a walk to Heustess, Mitchell delivered a single that scored Heustess.

Lennon and Lauren Council started the Racer third-inning with walks, and Tatum walloped a double over the centerfielder’s head that scored both runners. Abigail Collins walked, and both Tatum and Collins scored on wild pitches to tie the game.

Mitchell batted 2-2 with 2 runs batted in to lead the Sandpiper hitters. Autry and Burney cracked rbi singles for the winners. Heustess struck out ten batters in 4 innings to pick up the pitching victory.

Tatum’s 2-run double led the Racer hitters. Hailey Guyton struck out 2 batters in her 2-plus innings in the circle for the Racers. Collins struck out one batter.
