The Thunder clinched Bladen Recreation’s 11-12 Softball League Championship Thursday night with a 14-1 victory over the Racers at County Park.

The Thunder jumped in front with 4 runs in the first inning. Lainey Hughes was hit by a pitch, and Rylee Chadwick yanked a double down the leftfield line. Savannah Turbeville’s infield hit scored Hughes, and an error brought home Chadwick. Megan West then hammered a 2-run home run to right field that scored Savannah Turbeville ahead of her.

The Thunder stretched their lead to 9-0 in the second. Nyla Hunter walked, and Hughes smashed a triple that scored Hunter. Mackenzie Singletary’s infield hit plated Hughes. Chadwick ripped a double to centerfield, and Savannah Turbeville crushed a 3-run home run to the fence in centerfield that scored Singletary and Chadwick ahead of her.

The Thunder added 5 runs in the third inning. Laci Storms, Whitney McLean, Haley Bryan and Hughes drew walks that forced in a run. Singletary and Chadwick walked to force home McLean and Bryan. Savannah Turbeville blasted a double that scored Singletary and Chadwick.

Emma Turbeville lined a double to rightfield in the Racer fourth inning and scored on a wild pitch.

Winning pitcher Chadwick pitched a 3-hitter and struck out eight batters. Savannah Turbeville batted 3-3 with a home run and a double to lead the Thunder hitters. Chadwick was a perfect 2-2 with 2 doubles. West blasted the 2-run homer, and Hughes clobbered a triple. Storms and Singletary added one hit each.

Karli Priest pitched the first 2 innings for the Racers allowing 9 runs on 8 hits while striking out two. Amber Jones relieved her in the third and gave up 5 runs on 6 walks and a hit while striking out one.

Emma Turbeville led the Racer hitters with a perfect 2-2 day at the plate that included a double. Priest connected for the other Racer hit.

The Thunder finished the season with a perfect 5-0 record.
