Slammers 13, Comets 8
Johanna Parker dotted the leftfield line with a 3-run, inside-the-park home run that sparked the Slammers to a 13-8 victory over the Comets in Bladen Recreation 13-16 softball Thursday night.
The teams were tied 4-4 when Ruth Ward and Abbie Cross walked to begin the Slammer third inning. Parker then ripped her homer into the leftfield corner.
Izzy Smith smacked a single, and Alayna Weeks, Jordan Kinlaw,  Kirsten Starkloff, Jaya Howell and Cybil Campbell drew walks, and Smith, Weeks and Kinlaw scored runs to put the Slammers up 10-4.
Hannah Hill walked in the Comet third, stole a base and scored on Carlie West’s fielder’s choice.
The Slammers tacked on 3 runs in the fourth as Ward, Cross, Parker and Smith drew walks to force in Ward, and Nesiah Davis-McKoy’s infield hit plated Cross. Parker dashed home on an error to pad the lead to 13-5.
Walks to Ivanay Louis and Halie Mason started the Comet fourth. Alyssa Suggs and Demeary Britt reached base on errors as Louis and Mason scored. Olivia Hollingsworth belted a single to right that drove in Suggs with the final run.
Cross and Parker drew walks and scored on wild pitches to give the Slammers a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Demeary Britt cracked a single in the Comet first, and Hill knocked her in with a single to rightfield.
Kinlaw walked and  Starkloff was hit by a pitch in the Slammer second. Kinlaw and pinch-runner Gracyn Martin scored runs to stretch the Slammer lead to 4-1.
Katie Britt and Louis were hit by pitches and Brianna Hales walked in the Comet second. All three of them scored to tie the game 4-4.
Parker’s 3-run homer led the Slammer hitters, and Smith and Davis-McKoy added one hit each. Kinlaw struck out 6 batters in 4 innings to pick up the pitching victory.
Demeary Britt, Hill and Hollingsworth connected for one hit each to lead the Comet hitters. Hill pitched 3 innings and struck out 6 batters, while Hollingsworth struck out three in her one inning in the circle.
