Keri Faye Burgess and Laikyn Rogerson belted hits and scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the 5th inning as the Bandits rallied to edge the Heat 7-6 Tuesday in Bladen Recreation 8-10 Softball action. The Heat had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the 4th inning when Jeniyah Whittington singled and scored the go-ahead run on Madisyn Butler’s hit. Rogerson and Caity McLaurin shared the pitching duties for the Bandits and struck out 5 batters. Avianna Whittington struck out 2 batters for the Heat. Racquel Whittington was hit by a pitch to start the game. Avianna Whittington, Kynslie Kinlaw and Rylee White smacked singles, and Racquel Whittington, Avianna Whittington and Kinlaw all scored runs as the Heat took a 3-0 lead. Burgess and Maelee Grace Norris cracked singles and scored runs in the Bandit half of the first. India Storms and Tiyana Singletary answered with hits in the Heat 2nd inning, and Storms scored to pad the lead to 4-2. Avianna Whittington and White swatted singles, and Avianna Whittington scored to push the Heat lead to 5-2. Rogers, Norris and Hailii Andrews connected for singles in the Bandit half of the third, and all 3 of them scored to tie the game 5-5. Avianna Whittington and White both batted 2-2 to lead the Heat hitters. Norris batted 2-2 to lead the Bandit hitters, and Burgess and Rogerson both finished 2-3 at the plate.
