The Heat bunched a trio of hits in the sixth inning and India Storms raced home with the deciding run as the Heat edged the Riptide 5-4 Monday in Bladen Recreation 8-10 Softball action.
Storms, Madisyn Butler and Tiyana Singletary all reached base for the Heat during the winning rally.
The Heat had grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning as Angelina Jones and Avianna Whittington belted hits and scored runs. The Riptide answered with a run in the bottom half as Kenadie Pusey led off with a single and scored.
The Heat lead grew to 4-1 in the 4th inning as Kaylee Fisher and Avianna Whittington smashed singles and scored runs. The Riptide pulled even with a trio of runs in the home fourth. Pusey, Mollie Sasser and Adison Overgaard all connected for hits and scored runs in the inning. Pusey finished 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored at the plate.
Sasser struck out 9 batters while handling the pitching duties for the Riptide.
Avianna Whittington struck out 2 batters for the Heat, and Fisher struck out 4 during her time in the circle.
Avianna Whittington batted 2-for-2 and scored twice for the Heat, and Jeniyah Whittington also collected a hit.
