Bladen County Schools announced Tuesday afternoon that schools will be closed for students Wednesday because of the potential for severe weather.
The school system said it consulted with Bladen County Emergency Services prior to the announcement.
The decision also means that all after schools events are cancelled, including practices.
Wednesday will be an optional workday for staff.
A wind advisory is in effect Wednesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Winds are forecast to be between 20 and 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. The wind speed could be in excess of 60 mph during thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch are possible.
