Due to expected winter weather in the area beginning Tuesday afternoon, Bladen County Schools announced Monday it will transition to asynchronous remote learning days for Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22.

Asynchronous learning means that students will work independently on assignments that teachers have either posted in Canvas or sent home with students on Friday. Staff will receive information regarding work schedules for these days from their supervisors, the school system said.

Additionally, all school buildings and district departments will be closed both days and there will be no events or activities held. The East Bladen/West Bladen basketball games scheduled Tuesday will be postponed until February 13, and a decision regarding school operations for Thursday, January 23, will be made no later than 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22.

The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for Bladen County and surrounding areas from 10 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The forecast calls for very cold wind chills as low as 7 degrees expected in portions of southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina.

The temperature overnight Monday is expected to drop to as low as 17. There is a chance of snow beginning late Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. The high Tuesday is expected to be 36 degrees with the low Tuesday night to be 20.
