The Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District now has applications available for the 2018 scholarship. The scholarship is valued at $500 and is designed to encourage students who plan on majoring in either agriculture or natural resources and to encourage them for such a career through an organized program of study at a North Carolina college or university.

QUALIFICATIONS – Applications will be accepted from students meeting the following qualifications:

*Planning to or already enrolled in a North Carolina college or university for 2018
*A senior at a Bladen County high school or a resident of Bladen County
*Planning to pursue a two or four-year degree in an agricultural or natural resources related field

Some qualifying fields of study include, but are not limited to:

Agronomy
Forestry
Fisheries Management
Environmental Sciences
Soil Science
Plant Science
Animal Science

Agriculture Business Management
Resource Management
Agricultural Engineering
Wildlife Management
Agricultural Education/Communication
Environmental Education/Communication

Other fields of study will be considered, based upon approval of the Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors.

The scholarship will be awarded to one student each year by the selection committee which is made up of the Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors, whose decision is final. Financial need is not a consideration for this scholarship.

WHERE AND HOW TO APPLY – Submit the following:

* Completed application.
*Biographical information including: positions of leadership held, awards received, organizations in which you participated during high school, and any additional information you feel the scholarship committee should consider
*Two (2) letters of recommendation from an employer or teacher (past or present).
*Your most current academic transcript.
*Original, personal essay describing the reason for choosing a degree in agriculture or natural resources. The essay must be typed, and at least 400 words long.

Completed application, biographical information, transcript, essay, and letters of recommendation must be delivered to the Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District office by 4 p.m. on January 31, 2018.
