Cade Hancock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hancock of Elizabethtown was recognized Tuesday afternoon in a ceremony at Vineyard Golf at White Lake.

Cade, a student at Harrell’s Christian Academy, participated in “Leadership Links”, an annual event at Jupiter Island, Florida, sponsored by the American Junior Golf Association. This program has AJGA golfers raising money for the charity of their choice. Cade chose to raise funds for Operation Smile. Operation Smile assist children who were born with cleft lip and pallet. Hancock’ s sister was born with this situation. She has had 12 surgeries and is now a student at East Carolina University.

Hancock, one of the outstanding junior golfers in North Carolina, has won 13 times on the junior circuit. He is hoping to continue his golfing career at Wake Forest University.

For being the top fund raiser in the history of this event Cade was invited to play a round of golf with PGA Professional Ricky Fowler and was awarded a set of custom made Taylor Made golf clubs valued at $5,000.

Out of the $25,280 raised by Cade, half of it went to Operation Smile and the other half to the American Junior Golf Association. Pete Hansen, Operation Smile representative, accepted a check for $12,640 stating that this check would go a long way assisting children born with cleft lip and pallet.
