Bladen We Care, a local non-profit serving Bladen County, received thousands of dollars this morning from North Carolina Lt. Governor Dan Forest. Forest met with Bladen We Care board members Mac Campbell, Charles DeVane, and Robert Hester in Elizabethtown to learn more about the non-profit.

Campbell told Forest about all the work Bladen We Care has done over the past 30 years since its inception.

The local charity has purchased glasses for students, paid medical expenses for the sick, and assisted victims of house fires.

Hester and Campbell also mentioned the support Bladen We Care has given to Southeastern Carolina Crossroads, funding a scholarship endowment at Bladen Community College, and assisting the Bladen Baptist Association’s ramp building missions.

All the funds go to help people and non-profits here in Bladen County, according to Campbell. DeVane said the thing he was most proud of was one hundred percent of the proceeds raised for the Bladen We Care goes directly to help those in need. There are no overhead costs.

The golf tournament and gala fundraisers usually held in April each year raising over one hundred thousand dollars for the non-profit has been postponed, if not canceled the board members explained.
Forest listened to the outreach report and then handed Campbell a check for $4,000.

“This will go a long way,” Campbell stated.

Forest is currently the Lt. Governor of North Carolina and candidate for North Carolina Governor in the November election. He replied to Campbell, “Usually this time of year we would be traveling around doing fundraising efforts ourselves, but this is a different time. We want to do what we can to help.”

Campbell said, “I understand you have given over $200,000 to NC charities and people in need.

Forest confirmed Campbell’s statement and recalled a situation where a U.S. Veteran was going to auction off his bronze medal to help raise money to save his wife’s small business. Forest purchased the bronze medal to save the small business. He then turned around and handed the medal back to the NC man and told him to keep the medal because he deserved it.
