The Bladenboro Town Board met on Monday night and heard from Dan Hester who resides on Ash Street regarding
heavy traffic and speeders on the street. He expressed his concerns regarding the fact children walk and ride bicycles on the street alongside of speeding automobiles.

Hester said that Ashe Street has become a high speed short cut. He said he has spoken with town Administrator John O’Daniel about the situation.

“I’m worried because more children walking and riding bicycles. I know we cannot keep a police officer sitting there all day to catch speeders,” said Hester.

Hester said one answer might be the installation of larger speed limit signs. Hester also suggested the installation saying “No Through Traffic Allowed.”

The board heard a related matter regarding the town’s streets during the Open Forum session. The board heard from Don White regarding the matter of trash and sand collecting in the town’s storm drains. White reminded the board that following Hurricane Mathew, Boost the ‘Boro held a clean up day. White pointed out that trash is collecting once more.
White suggested the town look at investing in a street sweeper to help remove the debris and sand before it clogs the storm drains.
In other business:
*The board held a public hearing regarding the proposed Outside Storage ordinance. No one signed up to speak. The board approved the ordinance.
*The board also approved a special use permit for a solar farm to be constructed by Strata Solar.
*Town Administrator John O’Daniel told the board that the siding work on the Depot building has been completed. He said that next year they will need to review replacing the windows on the building.
*The board also voted to continue the meeting to February 27 to discuss the bids received for tub grinding of the landfill.
* The board also approved a request for funding from the Bladen County Law Enforcement Association for funds to help erect a monument to be located at the new jail facility.
