Bladenboro Town HallThe Bladenboro Town Council met on Monday night and voted not to proceed with an ordinance that would have allowed the police department to issue permits to town residents to discharge a firearm within the city limits to eradicate nuisance animals.

Town Administrator John O’Daniel said he took the feedback from the board from last month’s meeting and contacted several surrounding towns with regards to how such issues were handled and only one of the towns he contacted had a written policy.

Town Attorney Alan Maynard strongly advised the board against approving such a policy due to the close proximity of many homes and the liability and safety standpoint. The board voted unanimously against the policy.
