The Town of Bladenboro has declared a state of emergency and set a curfew in anticipation of “heavy rain, strong winds and potential flash flooding,” from Tropical Storm Debby it was announced Tuesday afternoon

The following restrictions and prohibitions are imposed, according to the declaration:

• The curfew will be enforced beginning Wednesday, August 7 at 11 p.m. and ending Friday, August 9 at 7 p.m.

• Voluntary evacuation of areas prone to flooding.

• It is strongly suggested that individuals stay off the highways and indoors during the severe weather event.

“I have determined that there is an imminent treat of, or existing conditions have caused or will cause, widespread or severe damage, injury or loss of life or property,” Bladenboro Mayor David Hales said in the declaration, “and public safety authorities will be unable to maintain public order or afford adequate protections for lives or property.”

Bladen County is forecast to receive 10 to 15 inches of rain over the next couple of days from the storm, according to the National Weather Service.
