The members of Boost the ‘Boro met on Tuesday in the first meeting of the new year.

Don White said the primary purpose for the meeting is that Boost the ‘Boro is embarking on a second phase for the Bladenboro Farmers Market. White said that the group is gathering data and preparing to apply for another grant from the NC Tobacco Trust Fund.

White said the group is looking at adding an open air general purpose shelter to the rear of the farmers market that can serve multiple purposes.

White said the group is also exploring the idea of painting a mural on the wall of the former Jones Department store building.

He said Boost the ‘Boro is also looking at ways the group can contribute to the town by assisting with adding more Christmas decorations along Main Street.

White said that the group is also looking at upgrading the outdoor Christmas tree.

BeastFest was also a topic of discussion, said White. He said the event is tentatively planned for Saturday, Oct. 29.

White said the group did agree to look into moving the memorial plaques that are currently in front of the former Armory to the courtyard on Main Street. He said that the monuments and plaques would become part of the display with the proposed mural.

White said the group is open to anyone who is interested.

“You don’t just have to live in the town limits. We include the entire community,” said White.
